Skilled Purpose Program: Trainee Rules and Expectations

The Skilled Purpose Program provides individuals in recovery from substance use disorder with hands- on training in the trades, career development opportunities, and a supportive environment for maintaining sobriety. Participation in the program is a privilege, and all trainees must adhere to the following rules and expectations.

1. Commitment to Sobriety

• Trainees must remain drug- and alcohol-free for the duration of the program. • If an instructor suspects a trainee is inebriated, suspicion alone is sufficient for automatic disqualification from the program. The instructor is not required to prove intoxication. • If suspected of inebriation, the trainee must immediately remove themselves from the classroom and property where the course is held. • Any trainee refusing to leave will result in local law enforcement being called to remove them and issue a trespass notice.

2. Attendance and Punctuality

• Trainees are allowed a maximum of two absences during the 12-week program. • Missing three or more classes means a trainee will have missed 25% of the program, making it impossible for the organization to vouch for their training to potential employers. • Tardiness is limited to three instances within the 12-week course. • If tardy, trainees must enter the training space quietly to avoid disrupting learning in progress.

3. Professional Conduct

• Trainees must demonstrate respect toward instructors, peers, program staff, and worksite personnel. • Disruptive behavior, harassment, threats, or violence will result in immediate dismissal. • Teamwork and cooperation are expected at all times.

4. Worksite and Classroom Safety

• Trainees must follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by instructors and worksite supervisors. • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when required. • Any accidents, injuries, or safety concerns must be reported immediately.

5. Dress Code and Personal Appearance

• Trainees must wear appropriate work attire (e.g., work boots, durable clothing, and required safety gear). • Clothing must be clean, professional, and free of offensive language or imagery. • Clothing with messaging related to drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited. • Jewelry and loose clothing that could pose safety hazards are not permitted.

6. Use of Tools and Equipment

• Trainees must properly handle and maintain tools and equipment as instructed. • Theft, misuse, or damage to tools or materials due to negligence will result in removal from the program. • All tools and equipment must be returned to their designated storage areas after use.

7. Zero-Tolerance Policy for Violence and Harassment

• Any form of physical violence, threats, or intimidation will result in immediate dismissal. • Discriminatory language, harassment, or bullying based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or other protected characteristics is strictly prohibited.

8. Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy

• Personal cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off or silenced during training sessions and worksite activities. • Use of phones is only permitted during breaks unless approved by an instructor.

9. Confidentiality and Respect for Others

• Trainees must respect the privacy and confidentiality of fellow participants. • Personal issues shared in group settings must remain confidential.

10. Program Compliance and Grounds for Removal

• Failure to comply with any of the above rules will result in immediate dismissal from the program. • Decisions regarding rule violations will be made by program leadership on a case-by-case basis.
